1.  How to get the most out of your ezine
=========================================

First let me say that not every newsletter is going to
offer exactly what your subscribers are specifically
searching for at any given point in time.

As an ezine publisher you need to realize this, and
therefore try your best to tell them about products,
services, news, etc that covers a variety of topics.

The reason for this is that subscribers will be at very
different levels in their online businesses.

Some of them are at the very beginning trying to figure
out where to start, while others are earning a full-time
living and just looking for interesting tidbits to add
to their efforts.

Many fall somewhere in between those two situations.

No given article is going to apply to every single
reader at that point in time.

As time goes by, though, they may find themselves in
need of information that you gave many months before,
but at that time they paid no attention to it because
it didn't meet their immediate needs.

This is a great reason to maintain newsletter archives
like I've done at http://www.affmatch.com/newsletter.htm

I also try to vary the information presented in each
issue whenever possible. This helps me to provide the
largest number of readers with something useful each
week.

For example, last week I hit beginners with one article,
then targeted intermediate to advanced with the other.

The first article told you about the killer deal
being offered by Internet Warriors and Host4Profit
  at: http://affmatch.com/warriors

If you don't have a website yet, this is the PERFECT
opportunity to get off the sidelines and on your way
  to creating a profitable website.

In the second article I gave a great way for those
with existing websites to get some extra traffic
over the next few months to take full advantage of
  the holiday spending season:
  http://affmatch.com/adminder

This can also be used if you don't have a website,
by simply entering in a affiliate URL for the
website you want to send traffic to.

Obviously it is better if you have your own
website and a way to request email addresses, but
it beats doing nothing ... especially over the next
  few months.

Using techniques like this in your ezine will allow
you to help the largest percentage of your audience
each issue.

Another idea that works wonders it surveying your
readers and asking them exactly what they are needing
to learn.

Some will reply with topics that you aren't able to
write about, but if you spot a trend in a large
number of your responses you can focus more of your
efforts finding useful resources and information on
that topic.

The bottom line in writing a great ezine is to make
it as useful as possible for as many of your
subscribers as you can.

You'll never be able to please everyone all the time,
but you can definitely please a larger number if you
use these techniques in your writing.

2.  Can you tie your promotions to current events?
==================================================

I had an interesting idea presented to me this week that
I felt you might find useful.

Most marketers pretty much feel that you should avoid
sending anything out on holidays. This makes sense because
most people are going to be busy enjoying their day off
rather than at their computer reading your sales message.

The flipside of this, though, is that holidays present
an excellent opportunity for you in the days and weeks
before the holiday.

What I mean is, when you know a holiday or a particular
event is coming up, why not cater your promotions to
that particular event?

For example, in the UK, the 3rd of this month was the
first day back to school for many school-age children.

Had you known this a month ago, you could have thrown
up a quick mini site promoting discount school supplies,
or children's clothing, or other accessories that might
be needed for this special day.

You wouldn't even have to already have a site related
to clothing or school supplies, but rather know where
to find a few decent affiliate programs and how to
throw up a mini site.

Phil Wiley shows you how to do that in his "Mini Site
Profits" ebook at http://affmatch.com/minisite

Or, you could simply purchase a quick domain name from
http://ShorterLinks.com and redirect it to one of these
affiliate programs once you grab the domain.

In fact, I did a quick search of deleted domains on
DeletedDomains.com and found a few possibilities:

 school-supplies-online.com
 abc-schoolsupplies.com
 school-office-supplies.com
 school-supplies-teacher.com

Once you get your domain name setup, you can simply
purchase some pay-per-click or Google AdWords traffic
and let it run on autopilot.

Very easy way to earn some extra bucks. Plus, with all
the many holidays and events happening throughout the
year, you could easily make a decent living JUST using
this idea!

Once you put a site together to capitalize on a holiday
or event, you can just leave it up for the next time
that event rolls around.

Then start preparing a site and strategy for the next
upcoming event.

A little planning and creativity on this one can go a
long way.

To make this even easier for you, Neil Durrant has put
together a free website called Affiliate Intelligence
that has a calendar of events and holidays from various
parts of the world.

Neil has a lot planned for the site, but just the event
and holiday information that he already has can keep
you busy for a while.

3.  Amazon finally making some changes
======================================

I received an email yesterday from the Amazon Associates
Program saying that they are going to make changes in
their commission structure.

Finally!

I don't know how much complaining it finally took, but
they are going to test out a new commission plan.

According to the email, it will be like this:

They've changed the base referral fees from a fixed 5.0%
to a tiered structure ranging from 5.0% to 8.0%, so the
more sales you drive, the more you'll earn.

Although you still receive the same 2.5% on third-party
items, their item sales do count towards your tier level
(see Associates Central for all details):

Products Sold Per Quarter Referral Fee Percentage

    1-25           5.00%
    26-100         5.50%
    101-500        6.00%
    501-3500       6.50%
    3501-15,000    7.00%
    15,001-175,000 7.50%
    175,001+ units 8.00%

Obviously this will be most helpful for those that are
able to sell a quite a few items, but its a start!
