I'm still doing the "web host shuffle" but hopefully I'll
have things back under control by next week.

I bought a new computer for the house finally. I've had this
one for over two years now and it is getting quite slow. Of
course I can't setup the new one yet because I'm too busy
with everything else!

Maybe with the faster computer I can get more work done...

I've been using 000domains.com for quite a while now to register
new domain names from. At $13.50 they've been hard to beat.

I really like the fact that I can log in to a control panel and
make changes to any/all of my names quickly and easily.

Well, I finally decided to try someone new, only because the
savings are even better, and a friend recommended them to me.

I'm now using Go Daddy Software at http://www.godaddy.com

They only charge $8.95 per year, and go as low as $6.95 per
year on multiple-year registrations!

They have the same easy web interface that I'm used to, and save
me even more money.

That's just what I like!

4.  Another great source for finding names

It really is tough to come up with ideas for good domain names.

Whenever I'm looking for ideas I'll click over to Whois.net and
use their Deleted Names search. You can type in a keyword and
search through their many thousands of names that have been
registered in the past, but now are available.

Every time I do this, I either find one I like, or I see one that
triggers several new ideas for me to search for.

I then jump over to ValueNIC to see what Wayne has for a certain
keyword, and just to see what's new for today.

If you are like me and are always on the lookout for good domains
to add to the collection, give either of these a try:

5.  How do you figure out what hosting company a site uses?
===========================================================

In doing my research for a new hosting company for my sites,
I ran across an interesting tip.

I've always wondered how to determine what hosting company
particular sites use. I know of sites that get decent amounts
of traffic and always seem to be accessible.

I also know of some that are hardly ever reachable.

So, it would be nice to know who they use.

I found a tip that works in some cases, not all, but really
helped me a ton.

There is a site Netcraft at http://www.netcraft.com

You can use it to find out all kinds of neat stuff about a
website.

When you get there, click the link to see What's that site
running?

Type in a site that you are curious about. When the results
come up, page down and look for the Netblock Owner information.

In many cases this will tell you who the site host is for that
particular site. Sometimes it will be the company that their
host uses for locating their servers, but still useful info.

If you are checking on a site that is very slow or hard to
reach most of the time, you can use this information as a
guide of places to avoid.

If you know of a high traffic site that seems to be there
most of the time, then you might want to check into the host
that they use.

Personally, I like to have as many research resources at my
disposal as possible when it comes to spending money!
