Let me first start off by saying that yard work is painful!

One major disadvantage to working at home is that I sit at
my computer all day long, and then when I have to do anything
physical I suffer for a few days afterwards.

Anyway, this week I let you peek into a little side project
that I've been playing with.

Enjoy!

2.  What I'm having fun with now (and making money too!)
========================================================

I thought I'd pass along a little information on a project
that I've been working on for the past couple of weeks.

For the most part it goes against all the fundamentals that
make affiliate programs so attractive, but it does have some
pluses.

With affiliate programs you don't have the hassles of shipping,
accepting payment, customer service issues, etc, etc, etc.

But we've also seen some of the downside of them over the past
year or so. Decreased payouts, program closings, and refusal to
pay commissions due to name a few.

So I set off in search of something different. I wanted to try
something that was low risk, easy to get started with, and that
had great potential.

What I found was actually something that I had been thinking
about for a long time, and really was an extension of a hobby
of mine.

I decided to try out the auction business. Before you decide to
skip to the next section of this newsletter, let me explain why
this isn't such a bad idea:

Low startup costs - you start with items around your house or in
your garage that are just collecting dust and taking up space.

Low risk - Most items will cost you less than $1 to list. If they
don't sell, you typically get a second chance for free. If they
still don't sell you are only out the listing fee.

Great potential - Auction sites literally get millions of visitors
a year. These are people that are looking for bargains, hard to
find items, or just wanting the convenience of shopping from home.
Its really hard to get more targeted than that!

Full-time income possible - There are many that are earning full-
time incomes from their auction businesses, some even making more
than $100,000 a year.

Control - As mentioned above many problems have popped up over the
past year or so with affiliate programs, (don't get me wrong,
there still are great programs that will make you a ton of money)
which really underscore your lack of control when selling other
company's products or services. With an auction business you are
in control of the prices, inventory, product selection, etc.

For me it was easy to get started because I've been using eBay
for over a year now as a buyer. All I needed to do was reverse
roles and try selling items for once.

If you have never been to eBay, you should give them a quick
visit ( http://affmatch.com/ebayauctions ) because there are
thousands of great deals and items that you can't find in stores.

Right now I'm selling off some books that I no longer need, and
so far have managed to make a profit over what I originally paid
for them (I even doubled my money on one!)

The thing that really helped me out, though, was the book by
Sydney Johnston called "Make Your Net Auction Sell!."

Sydney had been playing the auction game for several years and
knows exactly how to make it profitable. A few of the things
that helped me out were to use completed auctions to see not
only what has sold, but the details about it that made it sell.

Things like description, time of day the auction was started,
beginning bid, etc.

I also saved money following the advice on shipping charges,
and where to purchase packing supplies.

You don't have to read a book to get started selling on the
auctions, but I found that Sydney's book really saved me some
time and taught me some things that normally come from the
"school of hard knocks."

I'll keep you posted on my progress, but so far I've managed
to move out some clutter from my office, make some money, and
have some fun.

The other major benefit that I'm working towards with this idea
is that I'm going to get my wife and children involved. There
are no limits (within legal bounds of course) to what can be
sold through auctions.

I think my family will enjoy the bargain hunting, and money
making aspects of auctions, and I will enjoy the fact that this
is an activity we can do together.

3.  Associate handbook selling like crazy
=========================================

Its always nice to see the top Internet marketers practicing what
they preach.

Marlon Sanders is doing just that with his new book that I told
you about last week called "The Associate Program Marketing
Handbook."

He's created a great product with useful information for a low
price.

Basically what I call great value.

If you are working with affiliate programs to help your income
(as is the case for everyone reading this newsletter) you really
should get a copy:

===============================

Blaming the sorry state of the online advertising market, About.com
has laid off about 20% of its staff and axed more than 300 of its
Guide sites. The company also plans to shift the focus of the portal
away from information-oriented niche sites on a variety of subjects
to a model emphasizing subscription, transaction and e-commerce
revenues.
