Google Page Rank
Did you watch the Super Bowl this weekend? The
highlight for me was the commercial about the
robots, and the one where the guy jumps on the
bed with the silk sheets and flies right out the
bedroom window.
Now THAT was funny!
While searching for information for the News
section of this week's issue, I found a really
great article on Google Page Rank. A must read!
I've been doing some autoresponder research
lately that should be helpful as well.
Enjoy!

1. Web-based autoresponder alternative
=======================================
A couple of weeks ago a company that I work with asked me to
find a solution that would enable them to send out a series
of tips on how to use their software.
I knew right away that an autoresponder service was the best
thing for this, because the messages could be pre-loaded, and
then this system would handle the subscribe and unsubscribe
requests, and would send out the messages once a week (which
is how often they wanted them sent out) automatically.
The plan is to setup at least a year's worth of messages (52
of them) which would give current customers good tips and
advice over the next year, and gives a nice way to put the
products in front of prospects as well.
They wanted this to be pretty much on autopilot, with only
the time required to create the messages and then setup the
system.
Pretty creative use of autoresponders, I think, because all
you hear about is using them to follow up with people that
have visited your website, or to send out reports and such.
Anyway, I already had experience with AWeber, and knew the
limitations of their service, so I went ahead and signed up
with GetResponse.
Although both offer nice services that should work for the
majority of your needs, neither of them offered exactly
what I needed for this project.
The problem with AWeber is that you only get 6 follow up
messages, and have to pay $2 per month per additional
message. Let's see, 52 - 6 = 46 X 2 = 92.
That's $92 extra each month!
GetResponse gives you unlimited follow up messages, which
is great but you have to purchase additional accounts for
each autoresponder that you want to send out (AWeber has
this same limitation too.)
What that means is for example if I create a
tips@affiliatematch.com series, I would have to buy an
additional account to create a report@affiliatematch.com
series.
Even though this particular project only required one,
it would be nice to have the flexibility to add additional
series later on if the need arises.
Out of curiosity I decided to do some searching for a
software solution instead of the various web-based services.
The thinking behind this was that I should end up with a
solution that would give us more flexibility, and there
wouldn't be a monthly fee.
I found several that looked promising, but finally settled
on one called AutoResponsePlus. This thing is awesome!
It is a bunch of Perl scripts that you install on your server,
and your server is the one actually doing the sending out of
the messages.
I really liked this idea because I would have total control
over everything, plus it only cost a one-time fee of $99.
It allows you to create as many autoresponders as you like,
with unlimited follow up messages, and a ton of customization
options.
It handles subscribes and unsubscribes (which I needed for
this project) and even allows for ad tracking so you can
keep track of which ads bring in the best response.
It even has the ability to send a message to all of your
subscribers for one-time mailouts. This would work great
for newsletters or special mailings.
In fact, if this thing works like I think it will, I will
probably consider having it handle my newsletter subscribers
for AffiliateMatch. This would save me $39 a month that I
pay PostMaster General.
I went ahead and purchased a copy for my site to test it
out and get familiar with it before I present it to them
for their review, and so far I'm impressed with it.
Overall it took me about 30 minutes or so to setup. I do
have experience with scripts and such, so that made it
easier for me, but they also offer installation service
if you need it.
Now that I have it installed I've started to come up with
other ways that I can use it to not only save me money, but
to help increase some of my affiliate sales.
Just about every successful marketer swears by autoresponders,
and if you are looking for an inexpensive, flexible, powerful
solution, you might want to consider AutoResponsePlus:

2. Google Page Rank
====================
If you are looking for ways to promote your website, (as you
should!) figuring out how to rank well on Google.com should
be one of your priorities.
The bulk of my traffic comes from Google, and has been coming
from there for quite some time. In fact, if you go to Google.com
and type in affiliate programs you will see me in either the 1st
or 2nd spot.
This is my main keyword, and I switch spots with Allan Gardyne
about once a week or so.
Anyway, I've come across a really great article on Understanding
Building Google PageRank.
This is a great article, and worth the effort to read through
and put into action on your site:
